A mathematical phrase that contains numbers, variables, and operations Examples: 3x + 5, 2y - 7, 4a + 3b No equals sign (that would make it an equation!) Think of it as a mathematical 'recipe'

Parts of an Expression
Terms: Parts separated by + or - signs Coefficients: Numbers in front of variables Variables: Letters representing unknown values Constants: Numbers on their own

Like Terms
Terms with the same variable(s) and same power Examples: 3x and 7x are like terms 5y² and 2y² are like terms But 4x and 6y are NOT like terms
