Jake had been waiting all week for Saturday morning. His dad had promised to take him to Lake Taupo for their first fishing trip of the season. As they loaded the boat with their gear, Jake's excitement grew. The morning mist hung low over the water, and the lake was perfectly still.

"The key to good fishing," his dad explained, "is patience and knowing where the fish like to hide." They motored out about 500 metres from shore, near some fallen trees that created the perfect shelter for trout. Jake cast his line carefully, remembering everything his grandfather had taught him about reading the water.

After twenty minutes of waiting, Jake felt a strong tug on his line. His heart raced as he began to reel in what felt like a massive fish. "Keep the line tight, but don't pull too hard," his dad coached. When Jake finally brought the rainbow trout to the surface, it was the biggest fish he'd ever caught - nearly 3 kilograms!

The Wellington Under-12 rugby team gathered at the training ground on a crisp autumn morning. Coach Thompson had organised a special session focusing on teamwork and strategy. "Rugby isn't just about being strong or fast," he told the players. "It's about thinking quickly and working together as a unit."

The boys practised passing drills, ensuring the ball moved smoothly from player to player. Tom, the team's newest member, struggled at first but gradually improved with encouragement from his teammates. During the scrummage practice, the forwards learned to coordinate their push, while the backs worked on creating space for attacking plays.

As training ended, Coach Thompson reminded them of their upcoming match against the Auckland team. "Remember, respect your opponents, play fair, and give your absolute best effort. That's what rugby is truly about."
