Earth has layers just like Minecraft blocks Dinosaurs left clues in these layers We can be detectives and find these secrets Today we'll build our own Earth layers!
Detective Materials Needed
Clear jar or container Dirt from outside Sand from sandbox or outside Small rocks or pebbles Water Science journal and pencil
Step 1: Building Our Earth Layers
Start with rocks at the bottom Add sand in the middle Put soil on top Pour water to fill the jar
Detective Question Time!
What do you think will happen when we shake our jar? Which layer do you think will sink to the bottom? Why might heavier things sink down?
Shake and Observe!
Shake the jar gently to mix everything Set it down and watch carefully Use your magnifying glass like a real detective Draw what you see happening
Earth Detective Discovery!
Heavy rocks sink to the bottom first Sand settles in the middle Light soil floats on top This is how Earth sorts its materials naturally!
