Who Are Your Stakeholders?
Understanding Users and Their Needs Year 7 Technology Design and Innovation

Learning Intention
We are learning to identify stakeholders and understand their needs This will help us design better solutions Real people use our designs!
Success Criteria
I can explain what a stakeholder is I can identify who is affected by my problem I can describe the needs and opinions of stakeholders I can use stakeholder ideas to improve my problem
Warm-Up: Who Cares?
Scenario: A new playground is being built at school Think about: Who cares about this? Who would have an opinion? Write down as many people as you can think of!

Let's Share Our Ideas
Who did you think of? Why do they care about the playground?

Key Concept
All of these people are called STAKEHOLDERS Stakeholders = people who use it, are affected by it, or care about it

Types of Stakeholders
๐ค Users (people who use it) ๐ฅ Others affected (parents, teachers, community) Both groups matter for good design!

Why Stakeholders Matter
If you don't design for your users, your product won't work properly Different people have different needs Good designers listen to everyone affected

Modelled Example: Smart Lunchbox Cooler
Let's look at a real design problem Problem: Food gets warm and spoiled in school bags Who are the stakeholders for this solution?

Smart Lunchbox: Identifying Stakeholders
{"left":"Students (primary users)\nParents (pack the lunches)\nTeachers (supervise lunch time)","right":"School cafeteria staff\nYounger siblings\nSchool cleaners"}

Going Deeper: What Do They Actually Need?
It's not enough to just identify stakeholders We need to understand what each group NEEDS Different stakeholders can have different needs
