What is a Business?
A business makes or sells something people want Customers buy products or services The business tries to make money (profit) Profit = Money earned - Money spent on costs
Step 1: Explore Markets 🔍
What products do people sell at markets? Why do customers go to markets? How do successful stalls attract customers? ACTIVITY: Partner Discussion (3 minutes) Share one interesting market you've visited
Step 2: Business Ideas 💡
Brainstorm products you could make or sell Consider: Food items, Games, Crafts, Services Keep costs under $20 to make Think about what Year 8 students would buy Write down LOTS of ideas - don't judge yet!
Step 3: Form Your Dream Team 👥

Step 4: Choose Your Best Idea ✅
Test your ideas with these key questions: Will people actually buy this? Can we make it in the time we have? Do we have access to materials? Will we make a profit after costs? Choose your BEST idea based on these answers
Step 5: Know Your Customers 🧍
Who will buy your product? Students? Parents? Teachers? Visitors? Create a simple survey with 3-4 questions: What products interest you? How much would you pay? What would make you choose our stall?
Step 6: Plan Your Money 💰
Calculate what it will cost to make your product List all materials, tools, packaging needed Research prices at shops like Warehouse, Bunnings, Countdown Decide your selling price ACTIVITY: Create a simple budget table Must cover costs AND make profit!
