The Five Story Elements

Character - Who is in the Story?
Characters are the people, animals, or creatures in a story The main character is who the story is mostly about Characters have feelings, thoughts, and actions Examples: Goldilocks, Harry Potter, a talking dog

Setting - Where and When?
Setting tells us WHERE the story happens Setting also tells us WHEN the story happens It could be a forest, school, castle, or even outer space! Time could be long ago, today, or in the future

Story Element Detective
Listen to our story Identify the character Find the setting Discover what happens (plot)

Conflict and Resolution
Conflict is the PROBLEM in the story It's what makes the story exciting! Resolution is HOW the problem gets solved Every good story needs both a problem and a solution
