If you’re anything like the teachers I know, unit planning is one of those things that always gets pushed to the weekend (or the last day of break… no judgment). It’s time-consuming, often repetitive, and let’s be honest—there are a million other things you’d rather be doing.
So I wanted to share how AI can take that load off your shoulders. Specifically, how Kuraplan makes unit planning not just faster, but actually kind of fun.
Kuraplan is a free AI lesson planning tool built for teachers. You type in what you’re teaching (e.g. “World War I for Year 9 History”), and it generates detailed lesson plans aligned to your curriculum. But what most teachers don’t realize is: you can use it to build an entire unit plan in one go.
Let me walk you through how...
Let’s say you’re teaching “Introduction to Fractions” to 4th Grade students. Open Kuraplan, and type that into the prompt.
You can write something like:
“I’m teaching a 6-week unit on fractions to 4th Grade students. Can you generate a unit plan that breaks this into weekly lessons?”
Kuraplan will generate a week-by-week breakdown of the unit with lesson goals, suggested activities, and curriculum links.
From there, Kuraplan provides you with an outline of the unit plan, and a short description of each lesson. If you're happy with how it looks, all you need to do is click the "Generate Plan" button and boom. It gives you an editable lesson plan with learning objectives, activities, materials, and even exit tickets.
Each time you generate a new lesson plan, you can save it to your account. Over time, you’ll have a full bank of ready-to-teach lessons. Kuraplan automatically tags and organizes them by subject, year level, and theme.
(And yes, you can copy, paste, download, and tweak to your heart’s content.)
Planning with your team? Share your unit with a link. They can view or copy your lessons to make their own tweaks.
No more digging through old Google Docs or trying to remember who last edited the shared folder.
You can also easily print the unit plan outline out directly from Kuraplan, and what I just LOVE is that it even includes QR codes for each lesson in the unit, so if you print out the unit to keep in the classroom, you can easily jump back in to each lesson by scanning the code.
Here’s what I love about this workflow:
If you haven’t tried Kuraplan yet, give it a go at kuraplan.com. It’s free to start, and it might just save your weekend 🧠💡

Kuraplan has a free tier that lets you create detailed lesson plans and unit outlines. If you want more advanced features, there’s a low-cost subscription option for just $9 per month at the time of writing.
Absolutely. Every plan is editable. You can change the tone, structure, swap out activities, just like google docs!
Kuraplan supports multiple national curricula, including:
You can ask Kuraplan to tailor plans to specific year levels, learning outcomes, and even individual standards. And it’s always expanding to support more countries and teaching frameworks!
There’s no fixed rule, but I would typically reccomend 4–6 weeks per unit depending on the topic. You can specify how long your unit is, and it Kuraplan AI will adjust the breakdown accordingly.
Yes! After generating your unit outline, you can ask Kuraplan to create detailed lesson plans for each week—or even each day—within that unit. It’s all on demand.
