Exploring Australia's Diverse Living Environments
A Journey Through Different Places Where People Live Year 3 Geography
What Do You Think?
Look around your classroom and school What kind of environment do you live in? Is it busy with lots of buildings? Or quiet with lots of trees and space?
What is an Environment?
An environment is the place where we live It includes the land, plants, animals, and weather Every environment is different and special People live in many different environments
Australia's Amazing Environments
Australia has many different environments Each one looks different Different plants and animals live there People live differently in each environment
Living in Forest Environments
Trees everywhere - some very tall! Lots of rain helps plants grow Animals like koalas, birds, and insects People build houses between the trees Cool and shady most of the time
Living in Desert Environments
Very hot and dry Not much rain falls here Red soil and rocks Special plants that don't need much water Animals like lizards and camels
Desert vs Forest Game
I'll show you pictures Put your hands up high for FOREST (like tall trees) Put your hands down low for DESERT (like small bushes) Let's see how well you can tell the difference!
Living in Grassland Environments
Lots of grass and open space Some trees but not close together Perfect for farm animals like sheep and cows Good soil for growing crops Wide open skies
Comparing Our Three Environments
{"left":"FOREST: Tall trees, lots of rain, green and shady, many animals hiding\nDESERT: Very dry, hot sun, red soil, tough plants, few animals","right":"GRASSLAND: Open spaces, some trees, good for farms, grass everywhere"}
Where Do People Live? - Urban Areas
Cities and towns with lots of people Many buildings close together Shops, schools, and hospitals nearby Buses, trains, and busy roads Examples: Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane
Where Do People Live? - Rural Areas
Countryside with farms and small towns Houses spread far apart Lots of open space around homes Might have to travel far to shops Examples: Farming towns, country communities
Where Do People Live? - Remote Areas
Very far from cities and towns Only a few people live there Might be the only house for many kilometres Flying doctor visits for medical help Examples: Outback stations, mining towns
